This year’s Christmas Tree is produced by Modern Design Review magazine and comes in the shape of an original film. Made by acclaimed Icelandic photographer and film-maker Sebastian Ziegler, Evergreen is the story of an Icelandic Spruce Tree and will be projected onto a screen in the lobby throughout the Christmas season.
This reinterpretation of the traditional Christmas Tree will be characteristic of Ziegler’s past projects, with an emphasis on story-telling and beautiful, naturalistic observation. To create the film, Ziegler will venture into the Icelandic forest for the first snowfall and create a minimalist portrait of a single tree, concentrating on the tree itself and the environment around it.
“We decided it would be interesting to try and bring that natural beauty into the busy lobby space at Ace London. We hope that the installation will project a moment of calm and peacefulness in the lobby, and we hope people will gather around it just as they would a physical tree.”
Laura Houseley of Modern Design Review.
The lobby will be decorated with natural spruce boughs and the installation experience will be enhanced by a pine, crab apple and fern scent by Haeckels, inspired by the Blean Woods in Canterbury.
