This presentation will be a discussion around ongoing research conducted by THISS x ìssí on monumentality and representation in a time of unprecedented change and flux.
Monuments no longer represent us; they cannot change with us and they fail to support the growth of our communities, our collective imagination, and our needs in creating a sustainable and fully representative future.
Resilience has been previously understood as individual permanence and dominance, but modern times are showing us that a monument can be collectively pulled down, thrown into a river, covered up or simply rejected.
We are choosing to re-define resilience as impermanent, incremental, organic and optimistic.
