The Localist Cafe

The Localist Cafe

By Six Dots Design- 21st September - 23rd September 2023

The Localist Café brings together over a dozen local creatives, makers, and manufacturers to create a functional cafe, within which visitors are invited to contemplate the value of objects made locally.

Design enthusiasts will be able to sit within an eclectic cafe on chairs made in Peckham, to handle cutlery made in Walthamstow, and eat off crockery made in Elephant and Castle, getting a taste of what London’s local makers have to offer, including objects made by Common Design, Matan Fadida, and Kaymet.

Through creating the cafe, Six Dots advocates for buying locally made products by encouraging greater understanding of design and production, and ultimately engaging in conversations regarding the value of locally handmade objects. To emphasise this consideration of value, during the London Design Festival, visitors to The Localist Café are invited to participate in a silent auction, by bidding the exhibited items.

The Localist Café is generously housed by Shoreditch Arts Club, a hospitality environment designed to evoke the curiosity of an art collector’s home. The Club have commissioned over a dozen locally made design objects by Six Dots that accompany artworks from local artists and galleries, and interior design by Buckley Gray Yeoman who supported the project.
