Step off the beaten track in trendy Shoreditch, head down Hackney Road and enter a domain where a modern speakeasy is combined with the weird and wonderful. This former Victorian East End clothing warehouse has been dramatically transformed; a sumptuous interior with moody subtle lighting, Louis XVI inspired furniture, brocade fabrics and other lovingly sourced vintage pieces.
Beautifully crafted by the Looking Glass team and complete with home made bitters, syrups and liqueurs, you’ll find a cocktail list that is full of surprises. As well as the inspiration taken from Lewis Carroll’s novels, the masters behind this creation took an interest in the prohibition period, where alcoholic drinks had to be disguised with strong flavours and aromas.
After sampling the drinks menu, ask your waiter to escort you ‘through the looking glass’ which exists in the shape of a floor to ceiling grand mirror. Be prepared to enter a hidden space that can only be described as wonderland-inspired debauchery. Here, the smooth, electronic tunes have been turned up a notch and afternoon ‘tea’ is served in a completely unique way, presented in delicate teacups with a twist.
