Celebrated chef and restaurateur Mark Hix unveiled HIX ART when he opened the iconic Tramshed restaurant back in 2012. Hix knew he wanted to create a dynamic, contemporary space for progressive exhibitions in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch. The gallery is an integral part of the local art scene, hosting both emerging and well-established artists.
Mark Hix’s passion for art also extends into his restaurants where his collection is proudly on show. Tramshed, a former East End tram-generator building, boasts the renowned Cock ‘n’ Bull installation by Damien Hirst, alongside artists such as the Chapman Brothers, Tim Noble and Sue Webster. The menu gives centre-stage to Swainson House chicken and Peter Hannan’s beef, carved at the table and designed for guests to share. HIX ART and Tramshed are both a personal celebration of Hix’s love for combining contemporary art and exemplary British food.
